Today is Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. European Parliament recognized the day with the resolution of 15/04/2015, in order to remember the murder of around 3000 Roma elderly people, women and children at Auschwitz-Birkenau on 2 August 1944. Here you can find the statement of Vice-President of European Commission Frans Timmermans and European Commissioner for Justice Věra Jourová. Here you can check information about the initiatives organized across Europe to remember the event.
Roma people are Europe’s largest ethnic minority, some 10 to 12 million are estimated to live in Europe, and one of the most persecuted minorities of history. Fighting Roma discrimination and promoting their integration at social, educative and working levels is a priority of the EU Strategy 2014-2020. PAL project (co-funded by European Union – Justice Programme Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme and Pilot Projects 2014 of DG Justice), whose Consorzio Innopolis is partner, pursues the objectives of schooling and working inclusion of Roma youth and their families, in the perspective that the only antidote to racism and intollerance is the full social integration.
