Marko Stojanović, 30 years old, Brezje, Novo mesto, Slovenia
Marko Stojanović Junior has lived all his life in the Roma settlement Brezje. During his childhood, the living conditions were worse than they are today. Nevertheless, he finished elementary school. He was employed in Revoz, where he worked in two shifts. Since he wanted to continue his education to become a mechanical technician, he had nothing left to do except leave his job.
He graduated from vocational secondary school and became a mechanical technician. “If I can do it financially, I would also like to enrol in higher education.” He received a special scholarship, and today he is a student of mechanics.
Through public works, he was employed at the office in the municipality of Novo mesto, where he dealt with solving Roma issues.
Faculty of Industrial Engineering Novo mesto is a private faculty, financed exclusively by the fees of its students, nevertheless, in the academic year 2015/2016 they decided to fund three scholarships for free mechanical engineering courses for Roma, socially deprived and prospective staff. The scholarship intended for Roma was awarded to Marko Stojanović, then a student of the first year of 1st degree programme in engineering and vehicles. He joined the study process and successfully fulfilled all obligations. He was employed by Arex. in Šentjernej. Milena Tudija, President of the Roma Association Romano Veseli, participated in the granting of his scholarship: “I am proud that Marko Stojanović joined the studies and grateful to the faculty to have enabled him free studies. I want such opportunities for more members of the Roma community.”
