An experiential – interactive type Workshop entitled “Diversity as a source of knowledge” will be held on March 30 at GRAND HOTEL PALACE, in Thessaloniki, to strengthen coexistence and acceptance between Roma communities and non-Roma, through the creation of communication channels and the exchange of good practices.
In addition, a Regional Conference for the social inclusion of Roma will take place on Friday March 31, at GRAND HOTEL PALACE, in Thessaloniki. Both actions are part of the project «Development of the National Roma Platform for consultation and dialogue exchange of the Greek NRCP», implemented by the National Centre for Social solidarity with EU co-financing (program “Rights, Equality and Citizenship 2014-2020”).
The individual actions of the project aim towards active participation of Roma community members and their representatives, and to develop a dialogue between Roma, stakeholders and organizations, through open to public meetings – conferences, electronic platform, experiential workshops, etc. The ultimate goal is to a platform for dialogue on issues of Roma integration policies, which promotes consultation and cooperation between all stakeholders at local, regional and national level and to promote the implementation of the national Strategy for Roma and for promoting good practice.
At the regional conference in Thessaloniki is expected to be representatives of social services, institutions and associations mainly of Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia – Thrace and Epirus, regions where is identified the existence of settlements / camps with large number of Roma people living in poverty and social exclusion is identified. In order these living conditions to be changed it is required: a. convocation of Roma and non-Roma communities, b. strengthening cooperation between all parties and c. establishment of a mechanism for permanent dialogue and consultation in the design and implementation of social inclusion interventions for the Roma population.
