Dendropotamos
As every year, this year the teams “Connect” and “Fargobot” of the Light House of the world” received in September the materials and the track for the contest First Lego League (FLL) in Greece. The FLL is a nationwide contest in Robotics held annually in Thessaloniki in cooperation with the Eduact, the association that aims to promote educational activities on technology. Plus to education, engaging children 9-16 years with Robotics, promotes communication, creativity and fun. Throughout of the year, actions and events never stop and do not only focus on the contest day. Even the summer robotics camp offers, along with holidays, playground and game workshops and activities in the robotics.
For 4th year the both teams are prepared aiming at a new distinction. Both teams are consisted of children living in Dendropotamos, an area of Thessaloniki with intense delinquency and illiteracy. Children of the “Lighthouse of the world” in collaboration with Father Athenagoras (Loukataris) have managed through their actions to change the image of the area, to show off their neighborhood and to prove that knowledge, tenacity, love and willingness break down the ghettos. The last four years the two teams have won the 1rst prize of teamwork, 1rst junior coach award,1rst prize research, have traveled to America to participate in international competitions and manage to put the youth Greek Educational Robotics on the world map.
For this year the competition theme entitled «Animal Allies» focuses on the interaction between humans and animals. Children must think of ideas for coexistence and the improvement of human relationships with the animal kingdom.
Robotics can be applied in many areas, with many benefits, as robotics is the future, and just because the future belongs to children, we simply wish for another year of success and GOOD LUCK.
