1st Local Working meeting at the City Hall of the Municipality of Chalandri, in Athens.

The first Local Workshop (developing dialogue workshop and experiential character meeting) – in the framework of the Action Plan “Development of the National Consultation Platform and dialogue with the Roma National Contact Point of Greece “, which is implemented by the National Centre for Social Solidarity (NCSS),  through the EU co-financing program REC 2014-2020, was held on Monday 11/21/2016, at the Old City Hall of Chalandri, in Athens.

The meeting attended elected officials of the Attica Region and the local municipalities of Chalandri, Pallini, Spata – Artemis and Acharnes, and many representatives of local Roma Associations and trained Roma mediators.
The discussion highlighted the need for consolidating a systematic dialogue and consultation between local and regional government officials, who are responsible for matters of social integration with the Roma themselves, emphasizing that this process can be substantially facilitated by the assistance of trained Roma mediators, who can act as a bridge between Roma communities and non-Roma.

 

The  Convergence of Roma and non-Roma communities is the ultimate goal of the Dialogue Platform and the actions implemented aimed at Strengthening the networking capacity and consultation of Roma, as well as their active participation in the formulation, monitoring and implementation of policies of social inclusion .

At the last part of the meeting, an experiential workshop was held by instructors of ANTIRROPON, a non-profit organization, giving a picture of how it is possible to establish a relationship of mutual recognition and trust between the Roma and non-Roma community.
